The gym

21 Jul

Whenever I’m not at the school or at work I like to spend my spare time at the gym. And this has been my daily routine for the past couple years now and as I go there more and more I ended up becoming friends with people at the gym. This gym is located in the middle of the community and everyone who like to workout or hangout with friends comes over there. The space is very small comparing to the RPAC. This is very inmate gym you have the cardio area where mostly is used by women and then there is the weight lifting section of the gym where you can clearly see is male dominated. Even though the gym is divided between this two genres people still interact with each other and form friendships and acknowledge one another whether it is knotting their heads or waving their hands. So to be in small space like this there are some advantages of knowing people and then there are disadvantages like not wanting people knowing or bothering you with their stories when you just need to workout and get on with your life.

Recently, I went to Z Pizza in the Short North and it was not what I expected given the brand identity that they had posed to the public.   It looked like a small intimate neighborhood joint that I adore and advocate from big cities.  Instead, I found a gigantic empty space that sat only a few diners for the night.  (Unnecessary space!)  The kitchen was placed so far into the restaurant and in the corner that it felt separate from the public.  It was an open kitchen, but it went back farther than the public eye could see.  Though the food was fair for the prices, what bothered me most was the atmosphere.  It looked like a cave with 25′ ceilings, filled with brand new furnishings instead of resalvaged items, and the dining area was spread out so sparingly that I thought that the place was a cafeteria.  I really wanted to see a small counter with a few chairs and standing tables to contribute to the concept of local ingredients coming from the Ohio area in order to bring everyone together intimately to share in the final product of such fresh food.  The design of the space really contradicted the concept of the restaurant and interaction within the community.

Entourage

21 Jul

Over the past few weeks, I have downloaded and watched every episode of Entourage up to last Sunday’s episode. This being the 7th season, that was a lot of Entourage in a short amount of time. The show is a drama/comedy about the Hollywood lifestyle. It is unique because it deals with the behind-the-scenes aspect of the entertainment industry that most people don’t know about. It also follows the path of a rising movie star named Vincent Chase along with his “entourage” of friends. His agent and honorary fifth member of the entourage group is Ari Gold and he is among the most powerful entertainment agents on the planet.

Entourage sheds light on an environment that is unfamiliar to most of us, especially if you have never lived near Hollywood. Usually all we see are the movies, tv shows, plays, etc. and the actors that star in them. We don’t get to see the stuff that goes on in the background like the bidding for movie rights, reading of scripts, auditions for roles, and the other technical things that are behind the media that we consume. Entourage shows the audience these things in a fun way. It also gives us a taste of the California movie star lifestyle. You get the lavish houses, the fast pace, the celebrity presence, and everything else. If you guys are looking for a nice series to get into, then you should consider Entourage. Its on HBO though so its a fairly vulgar show, but if you can handle that, then it is really good.
